The Right to Read Film Screening and Conversation

Hayti Heritage Center 804 Old Fayetteville Street, Durham, NC, United States

Join Hill Learning Center for a complimentary screening of The Right to Read documentary at the historic Hayti Heritage Center. The event features a screening of the award-winning documentary by executive producer LeVar Burton, The Right to Read. This film shares the stories of an NAACP activist, a teacher, and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read. Following the screening, a panel of education and community advocates will discuss this film’s message. The panel will be moderated by Rupen Fofaria of EdNC and will feature Laura Stewart of 95 Percent Group, Jaalil Hart of KIPP NC, and Durham Public Schools Educator Dawn McClendon.
